TURKEY BINGO: This Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. please come to Crest View for this annual family fun event. Come try your luck at winning one of the donated turkeys and other prizes. There will be hot dogs, chips, popcorn and candy for sale. See you there!

HAT AND MITTEN SALE: Crest View students will be able to purchase a winter hat and mittens for themselves after lunch on Thursday, November 19. Cost for the items is $ .25 cents each. If there are hats and mittens left after Thursday’s sale, students will be able to purchase the items for a family member on Friday.

D.A.R.E. GRADUATION FOR SIXTH GRADERS: The sixth graders at Crest View will be having their DARE graduation on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the gymnasium. Families are invited to attend.

WINTER PLANT FUNDRAISER: Thank you for participating and raising funds for Crest View. The winter greenery and poinsettias will be delivered on Tuesday, November 24. You will be able to pick up the plants you purchased in the Crest View Café’ from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on this day.

NOVEMBER 26 AND 27, NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS: School will not be in session for students on Thursday, November 26, and Friday, November 27, to observe the Thanksgiving Holiday.

EARLY CHILDHOOD FAMILY EDUCATION PROGRAM: Grandparents who care for preschool grandchildren have a special opportunity to attend a special practice preschool program. See the attached flier for details.

RELEASING STUDENTS DURING THE DAY: Our student’s safety is our main priority! For this reason, it is important that parents and adults who will pick up your child are listed on your emergency form. We will not release your child to anyone not listed on the form.

LUNCHROOM NEWS: Parents/guardians: Students that are eligible for free and reduced lunches last year, NEED to fill out a new free and reduced application. A new application for free and reduced lunches needs to be filled out every new school year. Lunches are $2.00 a day. Please remember to have enough money in your child/children’s accounts. CREST VIEW PRE-K PROGRAM: Crest View is excited to offer a free half day pre-k program to families in our attendance area who have a child or children age 4 by September 1, 2009. This is an academic program that prepares 4 year olds for Kindergarten. If you know someone with a four year old who lives in the Crest View attendance area please have them call Arbor View Early Childhood, contact person is Pam Thoren at 763-391-8777.

WELCOME TO THE 2009-2010 SCHOOL YEAR: I approach each new school year with great enthusiasm, as I am privileged to work with outstanding staff members, students, and families. I look forward to the new opportunities that my eighth year as Crest View’s principal will provide. We welcome our new families with excitement. We love to have new children come to our building and bring with them their many gifts and talents.

Crest View is committed to the community we serve and we strongly encourage you to get involved: attend school sponsored family events, attend conferences, be a classroom volunteer, chaperone a field trip and help your child with homework. There are many ways for you to be involved with your child’s education. CREST VIEW BEHAVIOR AND DISTRICT ELEMENTARY HANDBOOK REMINDER: Parents and guardians please read the behavior handbook with your child (ren) and make sure he/she understands our Crest View high expectations for behavior. Violence and bullying will not be tolerated at Crest View, as we value peaceful conflict resolution. After reading the Behavior Handbook, please sign and return the parent signature form. A district elementary handbook will also be sent home with your child. Please read it to understand the policies of our district.

SWINE INFLUENZA UPDATE: As you are aware, human cases of swine influenza A virus infection have been identified in the United States. A number of the identified cases have been school aged children. Influenza symptoms come quickly in the form of fever, dry cough, sore throat, headache, extreme tiredness, nasal congestion, and body aches. These symptoms can be severe. At this time we recommend that you emphasize basic infection prevention measures with your child. These measures include: w covering your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing orsneezing w washing your hands often with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rub (Purell), w staying home when you are sick The situation with the swine flu is rapidly evolving and we expect more information will be forth coming. We will keep you informed as we receive updates.

EMERGENCY INFORMATION REMINDER: If you have moved or recently changed yourtelephone numbers (home, cell, or work), please notify the school office. The safety of all our students is top priority. If something should happen at school, we need to be able to reach you. Please call the school office at 763-561-5165.

REMINDER ABOUT STUDENT ILLNESS: Please remember the district guidelines forkeepingyour child home when they are ill. Students must stay at home if they have a temperature of 100 digress or greater, have vomited, diarrhea or unusual rash. Keep your student home until they have not had any of these symptoms for a full day. This will protect your student and others from spreading illness. EMERGENCY CLOSINGS, DELAYED STARTS AND EARLY RELEASE: When possible, decisions to close or delay the start of school will be made by 5:30 a.m. Listen to the radio and television news, or check the district Web site at www.district279.org during times of severe weather. School closing announcements will be broadcast on the radio and TV. A district wide school closure will be broadcast as “Osseo District 279.” If you disagree with a decision to holdschool on a day when you believe the weather is hazardous, you are encouraged to keep your
