The number of Osseo Area Schools students named AP Scholars continues to rise as 153 students were recognized from the district this year. Additionally, more students in the district are earning higher scores on the AP Exams.

Every year, the College Board recognizes high levels of achievement on Advanced Placement (AP) exams. All three comprehensive high schools in District 279 offer AP classes; Park Center Senior High offers both AP and college-level International Baccalaureate classes.

Six students earned National AP Scholar achievement, the highest AP honor, which is granted only to students who receive an average score of at least 4 on all AP exams taken and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams. Anthony Bogachev, Evan Hamamoto, Christopher Orner, Aditya Pidaparti and Sophia Vrba from Maple Grove Senior and Dong Bui  from Osseo Senior earned this designation.

Maple Grove and Osseo Senior Highs produced a combined:

  • 77 AP Scholars - must earn a score of 3 or more on three or more AP exams
  • 32 AP Scholars with Honor - must earn an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on four or more AP exam
  • 44 AP Scholars with Distinction - must earn an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on five or more AP exams

Many post-secondary schools provide college credit for AP exam scores of 3 or higher, depending on the subject and institution. This can save students money in post-secondary tuition and offer more room in their schedules to explore different classes, pursue a minor or even a double major.
