ISD 279 Usage Philosophy
ISD 279 operates under the principle
that the public schools are owned and operated by and for community
residents. The schools are an integral part of the community.
The School Board welcomes and encourages public use of school
facilities.

ISD 279 Usage Policies, Procedures and Guidelines

The name on the permit will be considered the responsible party
for the group. All groups must have competent adult supervision
at all times.
The person and/or organization on the permit agrees to reimburse
ISD 279 for any damage(s) to the school and its property
caused by the group.
ISD 279 does not assume liability for injury to participants
or others involved during community use of school facilities.
All organizations must agree to indemnify and hold harmless,
ISD 279, against all losses or liability.
Only equipment requested and approved on the permit will be
issued for use by the group.
Special lighting effects and AV equipment must be on the permit.
If ISD 279 operators are required, the group will be
charged for these costs.
Groups using facilities on Saturdays and Sundays may be charged
for supervision and/or clean up.
NO SHOWS: Permitted groups that fail to show and don't cancel
the permit in advance will be charged a $15.00 "No Show" fee.
Failure to pay no show charges will result in cancellation of
the group's permit and the group will not be able to use the
schools for the following year.
ISD 279 schools are drug, alcohol, and tobacco
free: Drugs, alcohol, or use of tobacco in any form are forbidden
on all school district property.
Gambling is not allowed on school property.
Possession of a weapon or look-alike weapon is not allowed
on school property.
Food may be served under the following conditions:
- Food and beverages can only be served in the cafeteria or other
approved location.
- If kitchen facilities are used, a food service employee must
be on duty. (Most groups will be charged for
staff time and clean up.)
- Pot luck meals are not allowed in the schools due to the Department
of Health's regulations.
- Catered dinners and banquets must be approved by the Supervisor
of Food Services (391-7065).

Scheduling Priority
Activity requests are scheduled in the following order:
- School sponsored, Community Education, elections, caucuses
- Governmental usage--including municipal parks and recreation
activities
- Civic, charitable, and community groups--including school
staff recreation and faith community services
- Neighborhood groups--including homeowners' groups and
faith community groups
- Limited commercial groups originating from within ISD 279--including
recitals and college courses
Facility usage is offered on a rental basis. Rental rates
for space and equipment are available upon request.

How To Reserve Facility Spaces
- Acquire and submit a Certificate of Liability Insurance & Hold Harmless Agreement
- All non-district groups, falling in Facility Scheduling Priorities 2, 3, or 5, including PTO’s, PTA’s, and Booster Clubs, are required provide a Certificate of Liability Insurance in the amount of $1,000,000.
- All organizations (including an individual, informal groups, commercial entitles, political subdivisions, and nonprofit entities regardless of legal status) must agree to indemnify and hold harmless the District, its officers and employees against any and all losses, claims, damages or liability to which the organization, its officers, or participants may become subject in connection with the conduct of any activity on the premises by the authorized organization.
- Please have ISD 279 added as the additional insured to the Certificate of Insurance, as follows:

- All requests for building usage must be submitted online.
Requests must be made at least seven work days
prior to the date of use. Priority is given to the earliest
requests.

ALL requests must state the activity's purpose, as well as
ALL of the information required to complete the permit
request.

Once Community Education receives the request, space availability
will be verified, applicable costs will be computed,
and the appropriate permit will be issued. Copies will
be sent to the applicant, school office, school custodian,
building supervisor/coordinator, and ISD 279's
business office or food service department (if appropriate).

Once you have accepted a permit
for school facility usage, you assume the responsibilities,
willing to comply with all rules and regulations regarding
school facility usage.

Cancellations & Changes to Existing Permits
- After the permit request has been processed a permit, along with a permit number, will be issued to the requestor. If the permit holder would like to make changes to the existing permit, the permit holder shold complete the following steps;
- An e-mail response will be sent to the permit holder which will acknowledge that the Facilities Use Change Request form was received and will be completed within 5-7 business days.
- After the requested changes are made by the Facilities Scheduler, the permit holder will receive a new updated permit via e- mail.
NOTE: If any of the requested changes can not be accommodated, a note will be placed on the permit, and/or the denied dates to be changed will be listed.
